ABOUT THE 3-6 YEARS OLD PROGRAM
Preschool, known within Montessori education as “Primary” (in English) or “Casa De Niños” (in Spanish), groups children within the same development plane: 3 to 6 years. The environment is prepared for each stage of development where the children move freely and choose their materials and work areas.
Children in this group are learning concrete concepts, therefore their environment is filled with hands-on work with manipulatives, and they are just beginning to learn some abstract concepts.
1. Practical Life
It is an area that Montessori named so that children learn to master common, daily life activities. With these activities, children acquire skills in 5 areas: Preliminary Exercises, Care of Self, Care for the Environment, Grace and Courtesy, and Control of Movement.
The practical life exercises establish the bases for the rest of the areas, both in hand-eye coordination, refinement of movements (prerequisites for literacy), responsibility, self-confidence and autonomy. Lessons in this area include activities such as, pouring water from a jug, pulling a chair out and in from the table, washing dishes, getting dressed, brushing teeth, etc.
2. Sensorial
The sensorial area pursues the cognitive development of the senses and their subsequent improvement. In addition, they help the child to acquire the concept of classification and recognition of similarities. Also, they acquire the ability to differentiate from similar objects and promote observation, among others.
With all these materials, mastery of other areas such as language and mathematics (order, sequencing, measurement, etc.) is achieved; They become aware of the environment by isolating the senses, difficulty and quality, they stimulate repetition and they acquire the possession of self-control.
They promote self-esteem and promote autonomy by checking the error for themselves and without the intervention of the adult.
3. Mathematics
When a child learns math skills at his/her own pace they will achieve the skills triumphantly. The child will be confident in his/her abilities and have the desire to achieve more with interest and great concentration.
Each skill begins with the concrete and progresses towards abstraction, the curriculum begins with counting and advances to long multiplication and division as well as division of fractions.
4. Language
When a child is sure of himself, he wants to express himself. An intangible aspect of the language area is supporting and showing them that we respect them.
For children to gain self-confidence, we must listen to children and show them that we respect them. The curriculum includes sounds of the letter games, first strokes in sand, literacy in cursive and later in print, sign language, reading analysis, creative writing, and grammar and syntax.
The level of self-perfection when the child follows his own impulse to learn is incredible. In Trébol the development is natural; immersive in Spanish and English with native Spanish and English speaking guides.
5. Culture
The area of culture, also considered as extensions of language, includes geography, history, science, biology – zoology – botany, art and music.
***children who have not yet reached 3 years will be accepted under previous evaluation of the center’s directors.***
“I would like to express my appreciation for our wonderful Montessori school Trébol, here in Uvita. We have seen so much improvement, growth and happiness in our child since she began at the school over a year ago. We are grateful to have such kind and talented teachers dedicating one on one time and facilitating a happy group environment as well. Monica and Jenni go above and beyond to make their school a joy for the children and it’s a privilege to have their school in our community.”
